Be a School Year VolunTEEN

Is your teen looking for a meaningful way to give back during the school year? This program welcomes young people ages 13 through high school graduation to volunteer at their local library from September through March. The initial session at Heatherdowns includes a mandatory one-hour training where teens learn what to expect and how to succeed in their volunteer role. Spots are limited, so early registration is encouraged. Once trained, School Year VolunTEENs support libraries in a variety of ways: helping with children's activities and crafts, reading to kids, shelving books, assisting with programs, and taking on additional tasks based on what their location needs most. Before the program begins, teens must create an online volunteer account through the library's website (registration opens September 1st). Volunteers commit to a single library location for the entire school year.
