Birthday Candles by Noah Haidle

Birthday Candles by Noah Haidle

Follow one woman's life across five generations in this imaginative play at BGSU.

Birthday Candles is a touching and humorous play that follows one woman's life across a century. The story begins on Ernestine's 17th birthday as she worries about her place in the world, then fast-forwards through the meaningful moments of her life—her 18th, 41st, 70th, and 101st birthdays. Throughout these pivotal years, the audience witnesses the joys, sorrows, and ordinary magic that shape an entire lifetime, all woven together around a single cake baked over generations. This production, directed by Teaching Professor Sara Lipinski Chambers, is presented by Bowling Green State University's Department of Theatre and Film. The play offers something for everyone—whether you're looking for a thoughtful evening out or want to introduce older children and teens to meaningful theater. Please plan to arrive on time, as the theater does not allow late seating. Tickets are available for purchase, and free parking is provided.
