Build a Halloween Automaton

Build a Halloween Automaton

Build a spooky moving automaton for Halloween at the library.

Your child will explore the mechanics behind moving decorations by designing and constructing their own Halloween-themed automaton. During this hands-on session, kids will learn how cranks and eccentric cams work together to create motion—imagine turning a crank to make a ghost twirl or a scarecrow bob up and down. The class is free and designed for students in grades 3 through 6. Younger children may participate with parental support. This creative project combines engineering and seasonal fun in a single 90-minute session at Heatherdowns Library. It's a great opportunity for kids interested in how things work to build something they can take home. No registration fee means the whole family can enjoy exploring science and mechanics together.
