Checkmate Challenge - Chess at the Library

Kids ages 10 and up can stop by the library for an informal chess hangout where they'll meet fellow players and enjoy the game in a relaxed setting. Whether your child is a seasoned player or picking up a chess piece for the first time, this event welcomes everyone. An experienced chess guide will be there to help newer players learn the rules and strategies, and the group will explore interesting games and notable chess figures together. The drop-in format means no sign-up required—just show up ready to play. If your child has questions beforehand or needs to discuss any accessibility accommodations, the Montpelier Branch staff is happy to help. You can reach them by email or phone to learn more details before attending.
