Discover the Midwest’s Largest G-Scale Train

Free display of the Midwest's largest G-Scale train set at Shady Lane Greenhouse.

Your family can visit one of the region's most impressive model train displays right here at Shady Lane Greenhouse. The KFH Legacy Train started as a modest holiday setup back in 1998 and has grown into a sprawling exhibition featuring over 2,000 feet of track across 16 different lines. You'll see a mix of passenger cars, freight trains, diesel engines, steam locomotives, and mountain trains winding through an elaborate landscape—all housed in a dedicated 4,800-square-foot space. Whether you're a serious train enthusiast or just looking for something engaging to do with your kids, there's plenty to explore and appreciate about the craftsmanship and detail throughout the display. The trains operate on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., so you can watch them in action during those windows. The greenhouse also provides comfortable seating with tables and chairs scattered throughout, making it easy to settle in and spend as much time as you'd like examining all the intricate details. Even when trains aren't running, the setup remains on display for you to visit whenever the greenhouse is open. It's a unique, free-to-browse attraction that combines the charm of a working garden center with an impressive hobby display that keeps evolving.
