Edible Insects

Hands-on science: explore edible insects, nutrition & sustainability at Locke Library.

Curious about what insects have to offer? This program invites young explorers to discover how bugs play a surprising role in diets and daily life across many cultures around the world. You'll learn about insects as an important source of protein in countries beyond the United States, plus gain insight into food safety standards here at home. The session runs one hour and is led by Lucas Water and Soil Conservation District. The highlight? Participants get hands-on experience by tasting pan-fried insects seasoned and prepared for sampling. This is a great way for kids ages 6–10 to challenge their assumptions and expand their understanding of global food practices. Space is limited, so registration is required. The event takes place in the meeting room at Locke Library, which is fully accessible.
