Fall Food Preservation Week

Fall Food Preservation Week

Learn historic food preservation techniques at Sauder Village's fall festival.

Step back in time and discover how families preserved food through the changing seasons at the Historic Village. During this full day of activities, you'll explore 19th-century canning and harvesting methods through hands-on demonstrations and historic cooking displays. It's a wonderful way to understand how people prepared for winter and made the most of autumn's bounty. This year's focus includes special butchering demonstrations on Friday and Saturday, where farm staff will show the traditional techniques used to preserve meat before cold weather arrived. The entire event is included with your Historic Village admission, making it an affordable outing for families interested in history, food, and self-sufficiency practices from generations past.
