“Fortuna the Time Bender vs the Schoolgirls of Doom” by Nashville Opera

Nashville Opera's inventive musical about a time-bending villain and heroic schoolgirls.

Nashville Opera brings a playful, modern twist to the art form with this campy comic-opera adventure. Written and composed by Jason Powell, the production blends musical styles from opera and Broadway to Gilbert & Sullivan and 1980s pop culture, all performed in an intimate studio setting. The story follows the time-bending hero Fortuna and her nerdy sidekick as they race to stop a villainous Headmaster and his trio of musical minions from threatening the city. With its graphic-novel energy and high-octane comedy, this is opera that feels as fun and accessible as your favorite superhero story. The production runs about two hours with an intermission and is recommended for ages 10 and up. Performances take place at the Studio Theater within the Noah Liff Opera Center, with shows Friday and Saturday evenings and a Sunday matinee option. The venue offers accessible seating and services, plus complimentary valet parking. The lobby opens an hour before each show, and you're welcome to dress casually or get fancy—whatever feels right for your family. Tickets are available through the Nashville Opera website.
