Independence Day 1813

Living history celebration of 1813 at Ohio's War of 1812 battlefield.

Step back in time this Independence Day at Fort Meigs, where you can experience how American soldiers celebrated the nation's founding during the War of 1812. On July 4, 1813, soldiers at the fort honored the occasion with cannon fire, music, and festivities—and you're invited to witness that same spirit recreated. Expect to see weapons demonstrations, hear historic music performances, and participate in activities that civilians of that era would have enjoyed. This event works well for families interested in American history and hands-on learning. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $7 for children ages 6–18, and free for children 5 and under as well as Fort Meigs Annual Pass holders and Ohio History Connection members. It's a chance to connect with local history while celebrating the Fourth of July in a way that brings the past to life.
