Intro to Mime with MimeCandy
Intro to Mime with MimeCandy—explore storytelling and emotion through movement.
This workshop invites families to discover how movement and the body can tell stories and express feelings without speaking a single word. Led by Pittsburgh-based performer Candace Walker, participants will learn mime fundamentals through hands-on practice, including basic techniques like stance and gesture, creating invisible objects through spatial awareness, and exploring classic illusions like the rope and wall. The class also incorporates lyrical movement—using physical expression to highlight a song or artist's message—and touches on sign language as another form of nonverbal communication.
The instructor creates a welcoming, playful environment designed to help everyone feel comfortable with creative self-expression and physical vulnerability. You'll start with mime history and warm-ups, move through games and skill-building, and leave with a stronger sense of how your body can communicate intention and imagination. This is ideal for curious kids and adults who want to explore performance, movement, and storytelling in a supportive space. Admission is $30 per person.
