Kids Club: Maria Tallchief

Learn about Maria Tallchief, America's first prima ballerina, at the library.

Your children will explore the remarkable life and legacy of Maria Tallchief, a groundbreaking figure in American dance. This program introduces kids to what it means to be a prima ballerina—the top-ranking female dancer in a ballet company—and shares Tallchief's historic achievements as both the first prima ballerina in America and the first Native American to reach that prestigious level. Designed for school-age children in kindergarten through fifth grade, this session celebrates Native American and Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month at the library. Your kids will learn how Tallchief broke barriers in her field, worked to preserve Native American traditions, and became an inspiration to countless young dancers. It's a wonderful way for children to discover an important role model while connecting with stories of achievement and cultural pride.
