Life in Early Ohio

Interactive history program about early Ohio settlement at Fort Meigs.

Spend a weekend exploring the everyday skills and crafts that defined life during Ohio's early settlement period. This special event at Fort Meigs brings together re-enactors and historic site staff to demonstrate traditional trades in action. Throughout the weekend, you'll find hands-on activities including rope making, tomahawk throwing, weaving, blacksmithing, spinning, cooking, and gardening. It's a chance to watch skilled craftspeople work and learn how people actually lived and worked generations ago. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days. Admission is affordable—adults pay $12, seniors are $10, and students are $7, while children five and under get in free. Ohio History Connection members receive free entry. This is ideal for families who want a hands-on history experience where kids can see practical skills come alive rather than just read about them. If you're interested in participating as a re-enactor, registration information is available on the Fort Meigs website.
