Paws for Reading

Kids practice reading to Benny, a therapy dog, in 15-minute sessions at the library.

Paws for Reading is a beloved library program where children read aloud to calm, trained therapy dogs. Kids of all reading levels gain confidence by practicing with a patient, non-judgmental four-legged listener who won't interrupt or correct them. It's a low-pressure way to build reading skills, overcome anxiety about reading aloud, and enjoy the emotional benefits of interacting with animals. Dogs are gentle and accustomed to children, making this a perfect introduction to reading fluency in a supportive, fun setting.
