Paws for Reading

Children read aloud to Benny, a therapy dog, to build confidence at Bowling Green Library.

Paws for Reading is a library program where children read aloud to calm, trained therapy dogs. Kids take turns reading books to a patient canine listener in a relaxed, low-pressure setting. This is a wonderful way to build reading confidence and fluency—many children feel more comfortable practicing with a non-judgmental furry audience than with peers or adults. Dogs provide comfort and motivation, making reading practice feel like playtime rather than a chore. Perfect for early readers or shy kids who need a confidence boost.
