Public Stargazing at the BGSU Observatory
Look through telescopes to see stars and planets at BGSU's rooftop observatory.
Bring your family to explore the night sky from the rooftop observatory at Bowling Green State University. You'll have the chance to look through powerful telescopes—including a professional research-grade scope and smaller amateur telescopes—to see celestial objects up close. Staff members will also teach you how to spot major constellations and planets that are visible in the current sky.
The sessions happen on the Physical Sciences Laboratory Building roof, accessed by elevator (look for the "R" button). Dress warmly, as the roof tends to be chilly and windy. Keep in mind that stargazing requires clear skies, so sessions are canceled if there's rain, snow, clouds, or fog. You can call (419) 372-8831 about an hour before the scheduled start time to confirm whether that night's session is happening. When you arrive, a staff member will greet you and guide you to different viewing stations. Photography without flash and astronomy apps are welcome, but please keep phone lights off and voices low so everyone can enjoy the experience.
