Public Stargazing at the BGSU Observatory

Bring your family to look through telescopes and explore the night sky from the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Laboratory Building. You'll have access to a professional research telescope and smaller amateur scopes as you learn to spot constellations and planets visible that evening. Staff members will greet you when you arrive and guide you through different viewing stations. Before heading out, bundle up—the rooftop is notably windier and colder than ground level. Keep in mind that clear skies are essential; if there's rain, snow, fog, or significant cloud cover, the session will be canceled. You can call (419) 372-8831 about an hour before the scheduled start to hear a recorded message confirming whether that night's session will happen. Once on the roof, please keep phone conversations to a minimum so others can focus on the sky, though you're welcome to use astronomy apps or take photos without flash.
