Public Stargazing at the BGSU Observatory

Public Stargazing at the BGSU Observatory

Public stargazing with telescopes at BGSU Observatory's rooftop.

Bring your family to experience the night sky through powerful telescopes at the university's rooftop observatory. You'll have the chance to peer through a professional-grade research telescope and smaller amateur scopes while learning to spot major constellations and planets that are visible that evening. A staff member will greet you when you arrive and direct you to different viewing stations around the roof. Getting there is straightforward—just take the elevator in the Physical Sciences Laboratory Building to the roof level (press "R"), and signs will guide you along the way. Plan to dress warmly, as the rooftop tends to be chilly and windy. One important note: these sessions only happen when skies are clear, so if the forecast looks uncertain, call (419) 372-8831 about an hour before the session starts to confirm it's still on. Once you're up there, keep phone conversations to a minimum so everyone can hear the discussion, though photos without flash and astronomy apps are welcome.
