Public Stargazing at the BGSU Observatory

Public Stargazing at the BGSU Observatory

Look through telescopes at stars and planets during public stargazing at BGSU Observatory.

Bring your family to explore the night sky through telescopes at the university's rooftop observatory. You'll have the chance to look through both a research-grade telescope and smaller amateur scopes while learning to identify constellations and planets visible that evening. A staff member will greet you when you arrive and guide you through different viewing stations. The session takes place on the roof of the Physical Sciences Laboratory Building, accessed by elevator (press the "R" button). Dress warmly—the rooftop is windier and colder than ground level. Please note that sessions only happen when skies are clear; rain, snow, clouds, or fog means cancellation. You can call (419) 372-8831 one hour before the scheduled start to check if conditions permit the session. While observing, keep phone conversations to a minimum and avoid using your phone's light, as this helps your eyes adjust to darkness. Photos without flash and astronomy apps are welcome.
