Public Stargazing at the BGSU Observatory
Look through university telescopes at the BGSU Observatory's public stargazing nights.
Your family can explore the night sky through powerful telescopes at the university's rooftop observatory. You'll have the chance to look through a professional-grade telescope as well as smaller amateur scopes, and staff will help you identify constellations and planets visible that evening. The experience takes place on the roof of the Physical Sciences Laboratory Building—just take the elevator to the top (marked with an "R" button) and follow the signs.
A few things to know before you go: dress warmly, since the roof is windier and colder than ground level. Clear skies are essential, so these sessions only happen when weather permits; if you're unsure, call (419) 372-8831 about an hour before the start time for a recorded update on whether that night's session is canceled. Once you arrive, staff will greet you and guide you through the various viewing stations. Please keep phone use quiet and avoid using your phone's light, as this helps everyone's eyes adjust to see the stars better.
