Scarecrow Lane

Join in the autumn fun at Retzer Nature Center by creating and displaying your own scarecrow along Scarecrow Lane. This is a wonderful opportunity for families, schools, youth groups, businesses, and individuals to get creative and contribute to a community art display. You'll build your scarecrow at home, then install it on the nature center's Blue Trail between mid-September and mid-October. There's no fee to participate, and Retzer provides the stakes for mounting your creation. Just remember to keep designs family-friendly and follow the simple instructions provided. Once your scarecrow is on display, visitors can enjoy a self-guided walk along the Blue Trail to see all the creative displays throughout the season. This is a fantastic way to get kids outdoors during fall, explore the changing leaves, and see the scenic pond area. The trails feature woodchipped and mowed grass with some gentle slopes—no pavement or lighting after dark. Whether you're making a scarecrow or simply strolling to admire others' handiwork, it's a free activity perfect for enjoying the season together.
