Sensory Friendly Weekends at National Museum of the Great Lakes
Sensory-friendly museum experience designed for kids with sensory sensitivities.
Sensory Friendly Weekends are specially designed museum visits for children and adults who benefit from a quieter, less overwhelming environment—including those with autism, sensory processing differences, anxiety, or ADHD. During these sessions, the museum reduces crowds, lowers noise levels, and dims lighting to create a calm space for exploring exhibits at your own pace. Staff are trained to be welcoming and patient. It's a wonderful way for families to experience the museum's Great Lakes history and maritime exhibits without the stress of typical busy weekend crowds.
