Speaker Saturday: Women Who Shaped Our Nation
Learn about influential women in U.S. history through talks at Heinz History Center.
Join the Fort Pitt Museum and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America for an afternoon exploring the lives of women whose contributions shaped early American history. This Speaker Saturday event features a screening of a documentary series that tells the stories of three remarkable figures: Dinah of Stenton, who gained her freedom and defended a colonial estate during the Revolutionary War; Elizabeth Coates Paschall, a healer and businesswoman whose historical records survive in Philadelphia; and Sybilla Righton Masters, the first American colonist to receive an English patent for an invention.
After the screening, museum staff and Mickey Herr, vice president of the NSCDA/PA Board, will lead a moderated discussion diving deeper into these women's legacies and their role in this pivotal period of American history. This program is included with general admission to the museum, making it an accessible way to engage with local and national history. Families interested in early American history and the often-overlooked contributions of women will find this a thoughtful and enriching experience. Advance registration is recommended.
