Sunday Gravy Science Lab Cooking Class
Hands-on cooking class exploring the science behind Italian Sunday Gravy.
Your family will join a two-hour, hands-on class that blends Italian cooking with food science. Led by Cork & Knife Provisions—a local catering company known for thoughtful, locally sourced menus—this isn't a traditional cooking lesson. Instead, you'll conduct edible experiments: clarify tomato water for a Caprese cocktail, stretch fresh mozzarella by hand, make ricotta in 15 minutes, cook spaghetti risotto-style, and watch gelato meet hot espresso. Along the way, you'll discover the "why" behind each technique—what makes cheese stretch, how pasta starch creates creaminess, and the science of emulsions and separations.
This class welcomes ages 14 and up and works best for curious cooks ready to get their hands (and minds) involved. No special skills or equipment needed—just appetite and a willingness to play with food. The experience takes place at Cork & Knife's downtown Toledo location, which offers free parking. Tickets are available through Eventbrite, with refunds possible if you cancel up to a week before the event.
