Taste Test the Past: Hot Water Canning
Learn food preservation with a hands-on canning workshop at Wood County Museum.
Interested in learning a practical old-fashioned skill? The Wood County Museum is hosting a hands-on canning workshop as part of their American 250 cooking series. You'll discover the fundamentals of safe food preservation, including techniques for canning homegrown produce, where to find reliable recipes, and how to research proper canning methods. Best of all, every participant leaves with their own jar of homemade tomato sauce to take home.
This one-hour program is perfect for families curious about traditional food preservation or anyone wanting to try canning for the first time without feeling overwhelmed. Admission is free for museum members and $10 for non-members—and your ticket includes access to a self-guided museum tour in addition to the program itself. If you're a member planning to attend, you'll need to provide your membership number. Note that each person must register individually; members cannot reserve spots on behalf of non-member guests.
