Try It! Youth Fishing Programs (Ages 17 & Under)
Youth fishing program for kids 17 and under at Cannonball Prairie Metropark.
This free fishing program welcomes kids of all skill levels—whether your child has never cast a line or already knows their way around a rod and reel. There's no registration required, so you can simply show up during the three-hour window. Fishing poles and bait will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, though families are welcome to bring their own gear. Kids ages 16 and 17 will need an Ohio fishing license, while younger children do not.
Participants can arrive anytime during the event and fish at their own pace—it's open house style, so there's no pressure to stay the whole time. An adult must accompany minors throughout the program. Come prepared for the weather with appropriate clothing and footwear, and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. These programs run regardless of weather conditions. An important note: please take all live bait home with you and avoid dumping anything into the water or onto the land to help protect the local ecosystem.
