Try It! Youth Fishing Programs (Ages 17 & Under)
Youth fishing program at Cannonball Prairie—learn to fish in nature.
This is a great introduction to fishing for kids of all skill levels—whether your child has never held a rod or already loves casting a line. The program runs for three hours in an open-house format, so you can arrive anytime during the window and stay as long as you'd like. Fishing poles and bait will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, though kids are also welcome to bring their own gear if they prefer.
A few things to keep in mind: the program happens rain or shine, so dress your child appropriately for the weather and bring sturdy shoes. An adult must accompany minors throughout the event. There's no cost and no registration needed—just show up ready to fish. One important note: kids ages 16 and 17 will need an Ohio fishing license. Also, please remind your child to take any unused live bait home with them rather than leaving it in or around the water, to help keep the ecosystem healthy. Bring along a filled reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
