Try It! Youth Fishing Programs (Ages 17 & Under)

These youth fishing programs through Metroparks Toledo welcome young anglers of all skill levels—whether your child has never held a fishing rod or already loves the sport. Kids ages 17 and under can spend an evening at Cannonball Prairie Metropark trying out fishing in a relaxed, open-house style setting where they can arrive whenever works for your family. The program is completely free with no registration required, making it easy to just show up and give it a try. Fishing poles and bait are available on a first-come, first-served basis during this particular session, so equipment access shouldn't be a barrier. Just keep in mind that teenagers ages 16 and 17 will need a valid Ohio fishing license. Children must have an adult with them throughout the event, and the program runs regardless of weather, so dress accordingly and bring water. Remember to take all live bait home with you when you leave—it's an important part of protecting the park's ecosystem.
