Try It! Youth Fishing Programs (Ages 17 & Under)
Youth fishing program at Cannonball Prairie Metropark—learn to fish outdoors.
Your child doesn't need experience to join this laid-back fishing event at Cannonball Prairie Metropark. Whether they've never cast a line or are already comfortable on the water, kids 17 and under are welcome to come fish at their own pace. The program runs open-house style, so you can arrive anytime during the three-hour window and stay as long as you'd like. Fishing poles and bait are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, though kids are welcome to bring their own gear if they prefer. There's no registration required, and the program is completely free.
Just plan to dress for the weather and bring sturdy shoes—these events happen rain or shine. Kids should carry a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Remember that if your child is 16 or 17, they'll need an Ohio Fishing License. One more important note: an adult must stay with your child for the entire program, and all leftover live bait needs to head home with you to keep the ecosystem healthy.
