Try It! Youth Fishing Programs (Ages 17 & Under)

Fishing lessons for youth at Cannonball Prairie Metropark.

Your kids can discover fishing at Cannonball Prairie Metropark, whether they're complete beginners or already comfortable with a rod and reel. This free, drop-in program welcomes young anglers to come learn and fish during the three-hour window. No registration is needed—just show up anytime during the event. An adult must accompany children throughout the program. Fishing poles and bait are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so equipment is provided for those who need it. Kids are also welcome to bring their own gear. A few reminders: teens ages 16 and 17 will need an Ohio fishing license, all live bait must be taken home (nothing left in the water or on land), and everyone should dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a filled water bottle. The program runs rain or shine, giving families a genuine outdoor experience at the Metropark.
